No way! I don't care HOW good they are. I'll do a hardtail conversion before I spend that much on a pair of shocks. May hardtail it anyway, that's what I learned to ride road bikes on. A rigid frame gives you a much better feel for the road, is steadier through cornering manuevers, and with the right compound tire, holds the road better than a "soft" frame. Plus, a spring mounted solo seat has just enough give to bee comfortable, without wallowing around the road like a drunk buffalo( as many suspended bikes seem to do quite regularly).
That's my opinion...and I'm stickin' to it. ;-)
